- One week before school started we held our second annual “Dare To Be Great” program for our incoming seventh graders. We had around 60 students participate in the mornings. This program helps with the transition from elementary to middle school. They do a lot of group activities so they can get to know as many new people as possible. They also get to know the building and some of the staff.
- We had another smooth opening to school this year.
- Meet The Teacher Night was on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. We had good attendance at this function.
- On September 15, we had a “send-off” for one of our social studies teachers, who will be deployed to Iraq soon. Dr. Dougherty and Jon Beckman were interviewed by students and Global Media aired the interviews. Then we lined the halls with all our students from Jon’s room to the nurse’s office, with the band outside.
- We are finished with our first week of Scantron testing. This is the high school’s first time going through it. We previously used the Terra Nova testing for our 9th and 10th graders and have replaced it with the Scantron Teat. This testing shows a direct correlation between Scantron and PSSA. We will test our students four times a year as opposed to one. Teachers receive immediate feedback and resources. With the Terra Nova test, we received the results the following year.
