Mental Health Awareness Day - May 17th

The Union City Area School District, Corry Area School District, and Fort
LeBoeuf School District are coming together to end the stigma! This collaboration
between school districts will be bringing their students together on May 17th to
participate in a Mental Health Awareness Day. Elementary aged students will gather at
the UCASD Football Field throughout the morning in shifts on the Union City Area
School District Campus. Secondary students will begin gathering at the conclusion of
the elementary sessions. There will be an array of fun activities that focus on good
mental health practices and information on avenues for support available.
After school, the event will continue, but we will also invite our communities to
attend as well. There will be food trucks on campus for those that want to purchase a
bite to eat, vendors providing information on good mental health, areas of support
available for those that so choose, concerts with the headliner being Chris Higbee, an
eco-friendly lantern release for those that choose to participate in memory of loved
ones, and the day/evening will finally culminate with fireworks.
Major contributors to date to help make this event possible are Hayden R.
Hitchcock Memorial foundation and Lake Erie Contractors (LLC).
Goals:
1. Educate students about available mental health help as well as coping
mechanisms for dealing with mental health issues.
2. Bring communities together to show our students it is OK to acknowledge
Mental Health topics.
3. Create a fun atmosphere for students and the communities to come
together.
4. Give families that have suffered a loss from mental health and opportunity
to heal (Especially with the lantern release)
5. Bring community awareness for the need to support mental health.

Much more information to follow leading up to the big event!
