School safety is about more than preparing for emergencies. It also means creating a positive school culture, building strong relationships with students, maintaining secure facilities, and proactively identifying and addressing concerns before they become crises.
Our Safety & Security Initiatives
The District has invested significant time and resources into developing a comprehensive school safety program focused on prevention, preparedness, and response. These efforts include:
Secure buildings with controlled visitor access and locked exterior doors
Districtwide school security personnel and support
Nearly 170 interior and exterior security cameras
Comprehensive Emergency Operations Plans for each school
Partnerships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency management agencies
District and building-level Threat Assessment Teams
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
School-based mental health supports
Ongoing staff safety training and emergency preparedness exercises
Regular review and improvement of emergency response procedures
Preparedness helps ensure that our students and staff understand their roles and can respond calmly and effectively should an emergency occur.
Safety Starts with Speaking Up
Physical security is only one part of creating safe schools. We also believe in creating an environment where students feel connected, respected, and comfortable speaking up when something does not seem right.
Students are encouraged to report concerns to a trusted adult. The District also participates in Pennsylvania's Safe2Say Something program, which provides a confidential way to report concerns involving bullying, threats, self-harm, or other safety issues.

Emergency Preparedness
Throughout the school year, students and staff participate in required emergency preparedness exercises, including:
Fire drills
Severe weather drills
School security drills
Bus evacuation drills
These exercises help ensure that everyone understands their role and is prepared to respond safely during an emergency.
The District also maintains a comprehensive student reunification plan should circumstances ever require students to be released from a location other than their school. If reunification becomes necessary, families will receive instructions through the District's official communication channels.

Parents and guardians play an important role in maintaining safe schools. Families can support our efforts by:

Encouraging children to report safety concerns to a trusted adult
Talking with children about kindness, respect, and looking out for others
Reinforcing that school safety procedures are designed to protect everyone
